MT. ZION  — Law enforcement officers escorted the body of fallen officer Troy Floyd home to Lincoln County Thursday night. His body was taken to the Mississippi Medical Examiner’s Office in Pearl Thursday evening.

Floyd was killed in a shooting in Summit while on duty for Summit Police Department Thursday. Two other officers were injured and the suspect was killed.

In 2023, Floyd ran for Lincoln County Sheriff. He stated in his Meet the Candidate questionnaire for the 2023 election that he was a resident of Brookhaven and lived in the Clear Branch community.
