BROOKHAVEN — Cool temperatures and clear skies will set the stage for Brookhaven Academy to host the MAIS Division II Girls Soccer South State Championship tonight. BA defeated St. Aloysius 1-0 to advance to the South State Championship game for a second year in a row.
Head Coach Alex Brown said it is the first South State Championship game for the girls soccer program to host. They will play East Rankin Academy who defeated Oak Forest 8-0. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. and fans are needed to support the Lady Cougars.
Brookhaven Academy is led by goal scoring machine Kyndra Quinn. The junior transferred from Bogue Chitto to Brookhaven Academy where she has flourished. According to MaxPreps, Quinn leads the state in goals scored with 45 and points with 101, 2 points are given for goals and one for assists.
Nationally, Quinn ranks ninth in goals scored and eighth in points according to MaxPreps. It should be noted the stats leaderboard only accounts for soccer players competing in the Fall 2024 window and who report statistics to MaxPreps.
At midfield, Karen Hernandez and Presley Day work hard to win the ball and to pass the ball to flying attackers. Mary Anson Tate, Susanna Tate and Camille Calcote are all quality forwards who provide other attacking options alongside Quinn.
In goal, Elizabeth Durr stepped up for injured senior goalkeeper Ainsley Orr this season. She is protected by three experienced senior defensive backs Chloe Nelson, Matti Claire Smith and Ava Calcote.
