One person is dead and suspects are sought after an early-morning homicide on Auburn Drive.

At approximately 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a possible shooting involving a vehicle on Auburn Drive, just south of the intersection with Arlington Road.

When deputies arrived, they were met by a witness who said they were driving south on Auburn Drive when they came upon a car stopped in the roadway. The witness saw a subject standing outside the vehicle who then fired several gunshots into the vehicle from the driver’s side.

The subject then ran south on Auburn Drive and was picked up by a second vehicle that came from behind the witness, and continued south on Auburn. The second vehicle is described as a passenger car, dark color — possibly red — with a paper license tag.

Deputies found a person in the passenger seat of the stopped vehicle who appeared to have been shot numerous times, said Sheriff Steve Rushing.

KDMC Ambulance service checked the victim on scene, and the individual was pronounced dead by the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office.

Identification of the victim is withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
