- CO-LIN SPORTS PHOTO The Copiah-Lincoln softball team will start the 2025 season on Saturday with a home doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. After Saturday, Co-Lin won’t play at home again until Feb. 28.
If you want to see the Copiah-Lincoln Community College softball team play in Wesson during the month of February, then you better catch their season opening doubleheader at home on Saturday.
The Wolves will play Reid State Technical College (Alabama) with first pitch of the opener set for 1 p.m. After Saturday, coach Meleah Howard and her team won’t be back in Wesson until the last day of the month, a Feb. 28 doubleheader against John Melvin University.
CLCC had another outstanding season last year under the leadership of Howard. The team finished first in the MACCC standings to capture the conference championship, went 47-7 and came in fourth at the NJCAA national tournament a year after winning the 2023 NJCAA Division II National Championship.
Expectations exist for another outstanding season as Howard is a combined 213-56 in her six years as head coach at her alma mater.
Loyd Star product Carson Hughey is one of the leading returnees on the roster in 2025. Hughey played in 51 games last season and finished with six doubles, one triple and 19 RBIs.
The roster has another Loyd Star alum in freshman infielder Abby Burnette.
Sophomores Olivia Banes (Simpson Academy), Emeri Warren (Leake Academy), and Taylor Efferson (Holden, La.) are a trio of returnees who’ll help pace CLCC at the plate in 2025.
Efferson is also one of the top pitchers on the roster and is joined by Keegan McCorkle (Tyronza, Ark.) and Emily Richarde (Lakeland, Tenn.) as veteran arms that Howard can use in the circle.
Co-Lin has nine sophomores and nine freshmen on the 2025 roster.
Reid State, located in Evergreen, Alabama, is 0-2 this season after losing twice (3-1, 10-0) at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC on Wednesday.
CLCC will play at John Melvin next week in Crowley, Louisiana. The Wolves will then spend the remainder of the month playing at events in Gulf Shores, Alabama and Vicksburg against a lineup of different out-of-state schools.
MACCC league competition will begin on March 8, with Co-Lin traveling to play at Meridian CC.
