Wednesday was the first day for high school senior football players to sign letter-of-intent with community college football programs.
The Copiah-Lincoln CC Wolves signed a total of 27 athletes on Wednesday under the direction of interim head coach Micah Davis. Davis was appointed to that position after his father, longtime CLCC head coach Glenn Davis, retired last year.
In the signee group were five offensive linemen. The Wolves inked Michael Christian Jr. (South Pike), Gerald Jackson Jr. (McComb High), Jayden O’Hara (Pearl High), Antrale Newson Jr. (Clarksdale High) and Tate Walsworth (Adams County Christian School).
Christian was an MAC 3A All-State selection and Jackson was named MAC 4A All-State along with being picked to play in the Bernard Blackwell All-Star game. Walsworth was an MAIS All-State player during his career at ACCS.
The Wolves also picked up a tight end in Jack Davidson from West Lauderdale High.
Two quarterbacks will be joining the roster in Kendal Middleton of Magee High and Jaylen Pettway, a transfer from Valdosta State University.
Middleton is the son of CLCC President Dr. Dewayne Middleton and threw for over 2,000 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior while leading Magee to a 12-1 record. Co-Lin also signed Magee High running back Kendarious Porter in the class.
Pettway prepped at Ed White High in Jacksonville, Florida before being on the roster at Valdosta State, the reigning Division II National Champs, last season.
CLCC signed a handful of other four-year transfers including defensive lineman Dorian Davis (Southeastern Louisiana), defensive back Sentario Willis (Southern Miss) and defensive back Aubrey Williams (Liberty University). Willis is a Hazlehurst High product, and the team also added a JUCO transfer in linebacker Archie Chambers (Fresno City College).
The Wolves also added a kicker/punter in the class in Ty Murray (North Pike) and one wideout in Jermarj Bell (Northside High). Bell was also a Bernard Blackwell All-Star.
Linebacker signee Jahmani Washington was a Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game selection while earning MAC 5A All-State honors for a Grenada High team that went 15-1 and won the MHSAA 6A State Championship.
Other linebacker signees include Daniel Watkins (Northwest Rankin), Josh Lane (West Harrison), Cur’Darrius Bullock (Lake Cormorant), and Aldrevian Keyes (Taylorsville). Lane was also an MAC All-State selection, Watkins had a 22-tackle game this season for 7A Northwest Rankin, and the Wolves added one out of state outside linebacker with a memorable name in Bartlett (Tn.) High product Lawrence Taylor.
Co-Lin picked up a big defensive lineman in the class in Joshua Davis of Mendenhall High. The 6-foot-4 Davis had previously been committed to Northwest Mississippi CC before signing with the Wolves.
Defensive backs in the class include Johntarrius Taylor (Crystal Springs), Josiah Vaughn (Harrison Central), Jason Smith (Poplarville High), Malachi Atterberry (Meridian High), and Calvion Johnson (Madison Central). Smith was part of a MHSAA 4A state championship winning team at Poplarville.
Expect the Wolves to continue to add players over the coming weeks as there are also several each year not announced that are either walking on or getting their aid through academics. These include Wesson linebacker Cotton Westbrook and defensive lineman Austin Johnson, and Parklane Academy running back Jax Toler. Toler was the MAIS 5A Player of the Year while leading PA to the state championship this season.
