Wesson freshman pitcher Madelyn Sanders was equally impressive, as she gave up two unearned runs on two hits, while walking two and striking out five.

Wesson scored its lone run in the top of the first, as leadoff batter, freshman Kenslie Carter, reached via a single to left field.

Carter scored later in the inning on a single by Wesson senior Emileigh Woodson.

Loyd Star then answered with its only two runs of the night in the bottom of the first.

Hornet leadoff batter Madison McKinzie reached via a walk and then moved to third when Maddie Kate Britt hit a ball that was fielded as an error by Wesson.

McKinzie scored on a passed ball and a subsequent error then brought Britt home for the final run of the game.

Wesson and coach Michelle Nunnery bounced back to beat 6A Warren Central 7-4 on Thursday and move to 4-1 on the year.

Loyd Star also won on Thursday, beating 6A Vicksburg High 11-9 on the road.
