Alexander alumni selected as hall of honor inductees

The Alexander High School Legacy Hall of Honor will be holding its fourth induction ceremony Friday at 11 a.m. at the Brookhaven Recreation Department.

Established in 2006, the Hall of Honor honors Alexander High School graduates on their achievements.

“It was a means of educating and documenting the history of the school and its graduates,” Dexter Holloway, head of the legacy committee, said.

The induction is held every other year as part of the festivities of the Alexander High School reunion.

The 2014 Hall of Honor Inductees will be John Bell, class of 1961;, Isiah Bracy, class of 1960; Maggie Gipson Bracy, class of 1959; Dan Brown, class of 1959; Leatrice Collins Buie, class of 1944; Joe L. Cain, class of 1947; Maxine Dillon Dillon, class of 1968; Patricia A. Dow, class of 1965; Jerry Durr, class of 1970; Barbara Brock Estavan, class of 1969; Eugene Humphrey, class of 1968; Ida Robinson Jenkins, class of 1970; Robert A. Johnson, class of 1946; Robert M. Markham, class of 1963; J.W. Morgan, class of 1950; Rose Mary Pickett-Williams class of 1963; Lawrence L. Prater, class of 1943; Thomas James Reed, class of 1945; Angeline Smith Roberson, class of 1955; Eric Sanders, class of 1965; John A. Sartin, class of 1955; Bernice Haynes Smith, class of 1960; Eddie H. Smith, class of 1966; and Frankie Weathersby-Jones, class of 1947.

An extensive committee searches for inductees who have distinguished themselves and made significant achievements and contributions in their respective fields.

Holloway said the reunion is held to allow former students to come together and reflect on their time at AHS.

“The name Alexander High School is still prominent, and its legacy must live one,” he said.

Registration for the reunion begins Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Alexander Junior High School and will continue Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The opening program will be at 6 p.m. at AJH.

A parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the downtown Post Office. For those in the parade, line-up begins at 9 a.m.
