Two Brookhaven players bag Region 3-5A honors

1224 BHS.Panthers.WebThe Brookhaven Panthers had two players to make the All-Region 3-5 offensive and defensive team.

Running back Tre McDaniel made the offensive team, and senior linebacker Leo Lewis landed on the defensive team.

McDaniel (5-9, 195, sr.) played a huge role in Ole Brook’s offensive game plan as he was the leading rusher with 1,573 yards on 229 carries.

Lewis (6-2, 230, sr.) was Ole Brook’s leading tackler with a total of 76 tackles on the season, 58 of which were solo tackles.

Ben Robinson, Stephen Springfield, Darius O’Quinn and Jared Dillon received first teams All-Region honors. Lazorian McNulty, Ken Boyd, Dedric Smith and Wanya Morris earned second team All-Region honors.

Ole Brook had several players selected on the All-Region Honorable Mention list: Thomas Poole, Darrian Wilson, Willie Bates, Greg Watts, Alex Benson, Tavis Moore, John Mark Mathis, Tyler Mixon and Davion McCoy.

The Laurel Golden Tornadoes captured three huge honors in the selection. Omar Bayless claimed the overall Most Valuable Player award in Region 3-5A. Keon Howard secured the Most Valuable Offensive Player honors. Laurel’s coaches were recognized as the Coaching Staff of the Year.

Wayne County’s Benito Jones earned the Most Valuable Defensive Player award.

The coaches from the Region 3-5A classification gather together and voted on the players selected.

Most Valuable Player:  Omar Bayless, Laurel

Most Valuable Offensive Player:  Keon Howard, Laurel.

Best Defensive Player:  Benito Jones, Wayne County.
