County employee dead after accident

County employee Stewacy Hamilton, 41, was pronounced dead after a dump truck accident Monday at 10:56 a.m. on Calvary Drive.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said Hamilton was operating a dump truck and ran off the road hitting a tree.

Lincoln County Deputy Coroner John Riggs said the truck caught on fire after hitting the tree. Riggs said the cause of the accident is under investigation.

The Brookhaven Fire Department assisted the county volunteer fire department in putting out the fire and clearing trees for the ambulance.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident and the body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy. Preliminary results are expected Tuesday.
