Volunteer firefighters plan annual car show

New Sight Volunteer Fire Department is getting fired up for the department’s Second Annual Smoking Tires and Putting Out Fires Car Show, slated for Saturday, Aug. 2.

New Sight VFD Fire Chief Cory Smith said, “The entire atmosphere of the car show will be family friendly and for all ages.”

The show will feature both classic and custom car models for exhibition. Admission to the fundraising event is free of charge to the general public.

Along with the car show, there will be a variety of family-oriented entertainment such as gospel singing from local artists, arts and crafts booths to shop at and Brookhaven Animal Rescue League’s pet adoption booth.

Harvey Magee, music director of New Sight Baptist Church, will be performing a selection of songs, followed by other Christian musicians from the area.

The event will have vendor booths selling custom-made jewelry, painted woodcarvings and other handmade items.

The fire department will have a booth selling T-shirts, grilled hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs and drinks.

Brown Bottling Group donated the beverages being sold at the event.

“The main thing we are raising money for is to provide a better quality fire department to the surrounding community,” said Smith.

The registration deadline to have a car in the show is the day of the event for $20, but if the car is pre-registered, the price is $15.

One car will be awarded the Choice Car Award, but every car will receive a door prize collected from a local business.

The businesses that sponsor door prizes will be entered to win a plaque for one of the Top 10 Sponsor Awards from the fire department.

The fundraiser will take place Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in front of New Sight Baptist Church on 629 Forest Trail, Brookhaven.

For more information, call Don Smith at 601-835-2785 or Cory Smith at 601-695-1591 or go to the fire department’s website at www.newsightvfd.webs.com.
