MONTICELLO – Georgia-Pacific Monticello recently announced the donation of 25 computers with keyboards to the Lawrence County School System as part of the company’s on-going commitment to local education.

“Georgia-Pacific is excited to be able to partner with the Lawrence County School System and provide computers and keyboards for the school’s use,” said Tammy Thames, GP-Monticello’s manager of technology and computer services.

“It is great to see the computers go to good use in our community to help develop student computer skills and improve academic achievement for both future careers and life.”

The computers are available as part of normal technology upgrades at the Monticello Containerboard mill as the mill continues to align new technology with innovation and opportunity.

Lawrence County High School principal Darrell Turner said the school will use these computers as part of the plan to refurbish the current computer lab, which is now used for credit recovery and student remediation for state testing.

“The lab will also be used to provide online testing as required by the new Common Core curriculum, which is required by the Mississippi Department of Education,” Turner said. “The current computers in that lab are getting older and are not adequate for our needs. This donation will be very beneficial to the students of Lawrence County High School.”
