Bobcats capture treasure in Covington County

MOUNT OLIVE – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats captured the treasure in Covington County after they defeated the Mount Olive Pirates 44-8 Friday night in Region 4-1A football action.

“We came out strong in the first quarter and took control of the ballgame early,” said Bogue Chitto Head Coach Gareth Satin. “Jeremy Blackwell had a big interception right off the bat. We still had too many penalties that we have to clean up; but overall we played good. We were able to get another region win.”

In the first quarter, The Bobcats (4-0, 2-0) were operating on all cylinders Friday night when they defeated the Mount Olive Pirates (0-2, 0-1). On the first play of Mount Olive’s offensive possession, Jeremy Blackwell intercepted the pass and returned it for a Bobcat touchdown. Cameron Price’s kick was good.

The Pirates fumbled the football on the next offensive possession and Justin Click recovered it for the Bobcats with 9:22 left in the first quarter. The Bobcats’ offense finally put points on the board when Jermaine Blackwell found the end zone on a three-yard run at the 7:28 mark. The Bobcats’ Cameron Price’s kick failed.

At the 5:22 mark in the first quarter, BC’s Brock Roberts muffed a punt and the Pirates recovered the football. Pirates’ quarterback Mylik Jenkins threw his second interception to Eli Holmes for the Bobcats with 1:30 left to go in the half.

In the second half, the Bobcats came out the gate rolling again. BC scored another touchdown at the 7:21 mark on a 1-yard run by Jermaine Blackwell. Price’s kick was good.

BC’s Eli Holmes must have had the Pirates’ quarterback’s number for the night after picking off another pass and return it 30 yards to the Bobcats in good field position at the 5:45 mark of the third quarter. The Bobcats tacked on another score with Theo Simmons’ touchdown reception for 42 yards with 0:13 remaining in the third quarter. Price’s kick was good.

Offensively, the Bobcats were led by Jermaine Blackwell with 14 rushes for 110 yards and Brock Roberts had nine rushes for 67 yards.

Roberts completed five of his 10 passes for 89 yards. Connor Douglas had a 23-yard completion late in the fourth quarter. Eli Holmes led the receivers with two catches for 40 yards.
