Lady Hornets and Green Wave win Ole Brooks Cross-Country meet

The Brookhaven Panther hosted a cross-country meet Thursday afternoon at the Hansel King Sports Complex. Eight schools participated in the event.

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets took home first place in the girls’ varsity meet and Natchez Cathedral claimed first place in the boys’ category.

In junior varsity action, the West Lincoln Lady Bears captured first place in the girls 2K run and Loyd Star Hornets finished first in the boys 2K run.

Here is the results of the event: In JV Girls: West Lincoln’s Megan Gerald placed thirrd, Jana Case placed second and Georgiana Allen placed first with a time of 16:58.

JV Boys:  Dane Smith from Loyd star placed third, Todd Calcote from West Lincoln placed second and Jeff Calcote from Loyd Star placed first with a time of 14:00.

Varsity Girls:  Julie Smith from Loyd Star placed third, Abby Thames also from Loyd star placed second and Rachelle Young from Jefferson County placed first with a time of 24:50 in the 5k run.

Varsity Boys:  Tyler Mixon from BHS placed third, Jamarrie Sampson from Jefferson County placed second and Jason Watts from West Lincoln placed first with a time of 19:14.

In the overall team standings meet:  JV Girls:  Brookhaven placed second and West Lincoln was first. JV Boys:  Third place: West Lincoln, Second place: BHS, and First place: Loyd Star. Varsity girls:  Third place: Brookhaven, Second place: North Pike, and First place: Loyd Star.  Varsity Boys: Second place: BHS, First place: Cathedral.
