BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – Red snapper season begins in Mississippi territorial waters at 12:01 a.m. Thursday and runs through Oct. 31.

Jamie Miller, executive director of Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, says the bag limit is two per person with a minimum size of 16 inches.

Miller said in a news release that extending the season through October will give anglers greater flexibility to plan trips and provide DMR with additional landings data.

Anglers are required to participate in DMR’s reporting program for red snapper.
