Girl’s Night Out is back. The fifth annual citywide shopping event will take place this Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m.

The Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce is coordinating the event for local businesses. With over 60 retail shops participating, women will have the opportunity to go into stores later to find deals on the latest merchandise.

Kay Burton, marketing director of the chamber, said the purchase of a ticket will include a meal voucher, a T-shirt and a book of coupons. Tickets cost $15 and go up to $20 on Thursday.

The dinner vouchers will cover $10 of a meal at Broma’s Deli, Magnolia Blues BBQ, Poppa’s Fish House or Pasta Junction. The vouchers will be honored through Saturday.

The coupon book includes deals for over 60 stores both for Thursday and the weekend. Some retailers will begin accepting the coupons earlier in the afternoon.

“It’s Girl’s Night Out, but if you want to get a head start most retailers will honor coupons earlier in the day,” she said.

Welcome packets will be distributed at the chamber Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Anyone with a ticket will also be eligible for more than 70 door prizes from the various stores. Winners do not need to be present at the time of announcements.

New this year will be entertainment for children at Jump-N-Jive from 4 to 9 p.m. Although it will not be free, Jump-N-Jive will have a coupon in the book to help offset the cost. Children will have food and supervised activities. Children must be between 6 and 10, of 5 if they have an older sibling at the event.

The chamber organizes the event to encourage people to buy locally.

“We’re just the spoke of the wheel that brings everyone to the table,” Burton said.

The chamber is able to pool its resources to help spread the word and organize better than the business could do individually. Also, because the event has a community benefit and the chamber has a large network of supporters, finding volunteers becomes easier.

“We couldn’t do it without the volunteers,” Burton said.

The event will end with an ice cream social at Brookhaven Monument from 6 to 10 p.m.

“Just grab a girlfriend and go,” Burton said.
