Brookhaven’s senior catcher Haley Speaks has signed a softball scholarship with the Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs.

Speaks signed her official scholarship papers Thursday afternoon in the Brookhaven Library. She is the daughter of Jim and Tiffany Speaks.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play softball at Hinds,” said Speaks.

Speaks plans to pursue a career as a physical therapy assistant.

“Hinds has a nice campus and they have a great physical therapy program,” said Speaks.

As a junior, Speaks batted .250 for the Lady Panthers. At the plate, she posted a .338 on-base percentage and had a .294 slugging percentage.

“Haley plays with a lot of grit behind the plate,” said BHS coach Mandy Vinson. “She has worked very hard behind the plate with coach Case who played at Mississippi State.

“Haley is always wanting to get better,” said Vinson. “Her arm strength is getting a lot better with workouts. We are proud of her for signing to play at the next level with Hinds. We will miss her next year.”
