Another suspect arrested in murder

Law enforcement officials tracked down and arrested a man Tuesday who is wanted in connection with the murder of a McComb man in Brookhaven.

The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Department arrested Jerry Tashodd Doss, 35, in Ridgecrest, La., Tuesday after discovering Doss’ abandoned vehicle in the area. Ridgecrest is a small town in Concordia Parish approximately 20 miles west of Natchez, just across the Mississippi/Louisiana state line.

The body of Cornelius D. Porter, 28, of McComb was found on an extended stretch of South Washington Street in Brookhaven on the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Following the death, the Brookhaven Police Department had issued a warrant for Doss’ arrest and a nationwide BOLA for Doss’ vehicle. After recognizing the abandoned vehicle in Ridgecrest, law enforcement officials were able to track Doss’ whereabouts to a home in the area.

Deputies searched the house on Ferriday Street and captured Doss after the homeowner claimed no knowledge of Doss whereabouts.

In Doss’ capture, the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Department uncovered narcotics in the residence and arrested all three of the home’s occupants. Tabitha Harris, 27, Johnnie Butts, 21, and Jacqueline Speed, 55, were arrested Tuesday night on charges of accessory after the fact to second degree murder, and multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Doss’ mother and girlfriend are believed to be among those arrested, said Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell.

In September, Doss was arrested on a gambling charge that led to the discovery of 10 semi automatic firearms, 6.5 ounces of cocaine and 25 ounces of marijuana. Doss was one of 13 suspects arrested in the raid that was executed by the Brookhaven Police Department and the Southwest Mississippi Narcotics Unit on East Monticello Street in Brookhaven.

Two other suspects have been arrested in connection with the Porter case. Karal Sham Lyons, 28, of 401 Crooked Lane, was charged with murder and Mashonna Shanta Dunnigan, 37, of 334 East Minnesota, was charged with accessory to murder after the fact by the Brookhaven Police Department.

Doss waived extradition and was transported to the Lincoln County jail at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, said Bell. Doss is being held without bail.
