Krewe of Ceres names Charity Ball Aides

The Krewe of Ceres is wrapping up their annual fundraising season with the Charity Ball set for Saturday evening. The Krewe raises money every year for local charities and organizations such as the Lincoln County Civic Center, United Way, Lincoln County Library and Folds of Honor.

The annual Charity Ball presents several up and coming young men and women as Krewe maids and escorts that attend the king and queen. Also in attendance to the king and queen are the Krewe Aides. Those chosen as 2014’s Aides are:

Samuel Robert Allen

Samuel Robert Allen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Robert Allen. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Allen of Brookhaven and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mason of Apple Valley, Minn. He is the great-grandson of Mr. and Mrs. AG Black of Brookhaven.

Sam is a fifth-grade student at Lipsey Middle School where he is a Rising Star Scholar and a Lipsey Lamplighter. He has won the school spelling bee two years in a row and placed second in the Lincoln County Spelling Bee as a fourth-grader. He enjoys playing baseball, basketball and soccer and is an avid reader. Sam is also an accomplished drummer and has played since he was six years old. Sam is a member of Faith Presbyterian Church.

There is a long family history of service with the Krewe of Ceres in Sam’s family. His father served as an escort in the 1993 court. His grandfather Bob Allen served as an escort in the first Krewe of Ceres Ball in 1966 and was King in 2006. Sam’s grandmother, Patricia Black Allen was a maid in 1966 and Queen in 1967. Sam’s Aunt Julie Allen Foncea served as a maid in 1990 and Queen in 1991.

Andrew Thomas Meilstrup

Andrew “Drew” Thomas Meilstrup is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Meilstrup. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Sherrie Meilstrup of Brookhaven, Mr. and Mrs. Hank Smith of Wesson, and the late Jean Smith.

Drew is a fifth grade student at Lipsey Middle School where he is on the Honor Roll. He enjoys many activities including playing baseball and hanging out at Gym of Dreams with his dad. He is a member of First Baptist Church and sings in the “Proclaim His Glory” choir. He is also a member of the Perthes Kids Foundation.

Drew’s sister Madeleine served as an aide to the king in the 2008 court. His sister Kathryn was an aide to the queen in 2011.

Katie Sproles

Katie Sproles is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Sproles. She is the granddaughter of the late John “Dub” Sproles, the late Barbara Lofton Sproles of Brookhaven, James Carroll and Jackie Carroll of Louisiana.

Katie is a fifth-grade student at Lipsey Middle School where she is on the all A’s Honor Roll. Katie enjoys activities including art, reading, cheer and Girl Scouts. She is a member at Easthaven Baptist Church. Katie has appeared in many productions at Brookhaven Little Theatre where she helps behind the scenes in numerous plays.

Katie’s father served as an escort on the court in 1989. Her sister Jamie was a trainbearer in the 2009 court and her Aunt Amy Sproles Smith was Queen in 1981.

Augustus Lavelle Sullivan III

Augustus Lavelle Sullivan III is the son of Mr. Augustus Lavelle Sullivan and Ms. Laurie Tedford Sullivan. He is the grandson of Mrs. Jeanette Dowe Sullivan and the late Mr. Stanley Earl Sullivan, and Mrs. Bobbie Sue Tedford and the late Mr. Rodney Wayne Tedford.

August currently attends fifth grade at Brookhaven Academy and is on the headmasters list for having all A’s. He enjoys participating in pee-wee tackle football, Upward basketball and city-league youth baseball where he has been selected twice to play on the all-star team.

August’s sister, Katie Sullivan served as an aide to the Queen in the 2011 court.

Abigail Rose Peavey

Abigail Rose Peavey is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Peavey and Mrs. Ashley Whittington. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Peavey, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Phillips and Dr. and Mrs. Frank Turnage.

Abigail attends fifth grade at Lipsey Elementary School. She has taken piano for four years. She enjoys cheer and art. She plays Upward basketball and participates in the Joyful Noise Choir.

Her father served as an escort on the 1987 court. Her sister Rebecca was an aide in 2011. Her brother Nathan was an aide in 2013 and her great-grandfather Joe Brewer has served as King in the past.

Abigail attends Faith Presbyterian Church in Brookhaven.
