Lincoln schools getting ready for major projects in district
The Lincoln County School Board approved the new budget for 2015 and is now preparing for major projects.
Remodeling will begin at the Loyd Star gym. Enterprise also will see projects, with demolition of an old building and remodeling of an existing building to be a cafeteria.
“The month of June is to make sure we close down everything and our books are level,” Superintendent Terry Brister said at Thursday’s board meeting. He added that the fiscal school year starts July 1, so all the major projects will begin after that.
None of the major projects have firm cost estimates, but the bid process will begin after the start of the fiscal year.
Brister said another issue that has been delaying the project at Loyd Star is the condition of the building.
“We want to make it (the gym) as much like the other new gyms at the other schools,” said Brister. “I’d love to have had it finished last year but the shoe didn’t fit.”
Last year Enterprise and Bogue Chitto received new gymnasiums.
The board approved the 2015 budget, 16th Section allocations and water, legal, trash and lawn care services. This was the last meeting in June and marked the closing of the fiscal year.
Brister concluded the meeting by reiterating that May is for schools closing, June is for budget closing and July is for new major projects.
