Caleb Yarborough is taking his baseball talents to the next level. Loyd Star pitcher/outfielder has signed a baseball scholarship with the Meridian Community College Eagles.

Yarborough, a 5-foot-10, right-hander, signed his official scholarship papers Thursday in the Loyd Star Library. He is the son of Chad and Christy Yarborough.

“I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to play baseball at Meridian,” Yarborough said.

Caleb mentioned he is undecided on what he wants to pursue a career. Academically, Yarborough has a 3.24 grade point as a senior at Loyd Star.

As a junior on the baseball diamond, Yarborough batted .422 for the Hornets. He accounted for 22 RBI, seven stolen bases and six doubles. On the mound, he posted a 1.88 ERA with 7-2 record in 52 innings pitched.

Caleb also plays on the Hornets’ basketball team. Currently in his senior season, he is averaging 14.2 points, three rebounds and three assists per game.

Yarborough stated he has earned plenty of awards in playing sports at Loyd Star like being recognized for First Team All-State in 2014, Most Valuable Pitcher in 2014 and Most Valuable Defensive player in baseball, but his biggest accomplishment is earning the scholarship to play college baseball for Meridian.

“I am very proud for Caleb and his accomplishment,” Loyd Star Baseball Coach Jared Britt said. “He is very deserving of this opportunity to play baseball at the next level. Meridian will be gaining a good asset in Caleb, not only on the diamond, but in the classroom as well. Caleb is a hard worker and a Christian, who will bring a high character.”
