‘My Summer With Elvis’: Summer romance story slated for movie

An area woman’s story about her teenage romance with the young Elvis Presley is slated to become a movie.

Based on a chapter in Miriam Sneed’s book, “The Life of a Country Princess,” which was published in 2011, the proposed film, “My Summer with Elvis,” is currently pending with Ghost Rider Pictures. The screenplay is by Rick Guy and Steven Scaffidi.

Sneed, of McComb, authored the book under her maiden name, “Mimi” Brower.

“My Summer with Elvis” tells the story of 13-year-old Mimi, who traveled from her Calhoun County home to Memphis one summer to stay with her Aunt Ruth and Uncle Bob Logan and her cousin, Rick Logan.

“Miss Gladys (Elvis’ mother) was my aunt’s best friend, and she did Miss Gladys’ hair until she died,” Sneed recalled.

“Elvis was their neighbor. He was playing the guitar in their living room the first time I met him,” Sneed said. The young Mimi, who was a singer herself, was immediately smitten by the then 14-year-old Elvis.

“It’s a story about kids being kids for the summer with a little summer romance between the two,” said screen writer Guy. “We’re in the process of trying to attract talent and funding for the film, with a very few, select number of people looking at the screenplay.”
