European cars converging in the area Saturday

A sort of scavenger hunt on wheels with a decidedly English flair will begin Saturday morning, as part of a sports car rally for the English Motor Club of Mississippi and the Deep South Alpha Romeo Club.

The DSARC EMC Rally participants will converge in downtown Brookhaven in their British-made sports cars before they head out across the countryside, using their wit to decipher clues that will lead them to their final destination.

Consisting of a two-man driver and navigator team, approximately 20-30 cars will start a rally at 10 a.m. at the old train depot in Brookhaven and continue along a mystery course that is most likely set through Lincoln, Lawrence and Jefferson Davis counties onward to the Laurel/Hattiesburg area.

The rally is a timed event with check-in points along the way. Ultimately, the goal is to reach an unspecified location by a certain time.

Among the cars expected to arrive for Saturday’s event include old MG’s, Triumphs, Jaguars (both newer and later models) and possibly a McLaren and a Lotus or two. Rally drivers will convene in the parking lot next to the train depot Saturday morning.
