Co-Lin president says thank you for support
Copiah-Lincoln Community College President Ronnie Nettles thanked the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors Monday morning for the support the county has given to Co-Lin over the years.
“In my mind, Lincoln County is a great model,” Nettles said. “It’s real important that we have your support, and we’re grateful for that.”
Nettles said Co-Lin has seen smaller enrollment but higher graduation rates with more than 700 students graduating this past year. He said increasing graduation rates benefit the community as well as the school.
Rita Goss, tax collector/assessor, said the land sale for the 2013 delinquent taxes will begin Monday, Aug. 25. The taxes were due in January, and the land was listed in a 16-page legal notice published in The Daily Leader on Aug. 14. Goss said landowners have until Friday to pay their taxes to prevent the sale of property.
The board also handled the following additional items:
• Approved an agreement for Atlas maintenance in conjunction with the mapping project the tax office has undergone to get the mapping online.
• Approved a judicial training conference for the justice court judges. Three supervisors voted in favor and the Rev. Jerry Wilson, District One supervisor, voted against. Wilson said the judges should ask for approval in person.
• In regard to a tax request by Terry Lynn Watkins at the previous board meeting, Bob Allen, county attorney, advised no refund could be legally given.
