Lady Panthers dominate Salem

The Brookhaven Lady Panthers traveled to Walthall County Thursday night and defeated the Salem Lady Wildcats 15-2. In the junior varsity contest, Brookhaven edged Salem 6-5.

“The girls hit the ball really well tonight. We were excited for Kat Wallace to get her first homerun,” said BHS head coach Mandy Vinson. “Kat Shell pitched two really good innings tonight and we were able to get her some rest in the third inning. Our defense played tough tonight. I am happy with the improvements we are making on offense and defense.”

Brookhaven 15, Salem 2 

Kat Wallace powered the Lady Panthers with her first homerun, which was a towering shot over the left field fence. Wallace also contributed two singles in the game. Tia Bussey, Macy Ziskin, Maley Moak and Jada Henderson contributed two singles each.

Katherine Shell was the winning pitcher with one strikeout and no walks in two innings of play. Madison Thompson came in as a relief pitcher in the third inning. Thompson finished with one strikeout and one walk. Thompson gave up two singles.

Dakota Thomas was the losing pitcher. She had five strikeouts and eight walks. Hanna Rushing had one strikeout and three walks in relief.

The Lady Panthers (14-3, 1-0) will travel to Natchez for a district game today against the Lady Bulldogs, beginning at 5 p.m. for a varsity game only. Brookhaven will also be in action Saturday in the Loyd Star tournament. The Lady Panthers will face Bogue Chitto at 10 a.m. and Enterprise at 5:30 p.m.

In JV action, Brookhaven won 6-5 over Salem.

Madison Thompson and Jadeyn Fuller pitched for the Lady Panthers. Brookhaven was led at the plate by Meg Foster with a double and a single. Olivia Devoul had a double. Moak hit safely.
