Residents of Brookhaven may have noticed the unmistakable smell of fire, and perhaps seen white smoke billowing over treetops in town at approximately 12 p.m. Wednesday.

The culprit was a pile of burning rubble approximately 10 feet in diameter that could be found just south of the intersection of South Second and Minnesota Streets in a small lot next to a residence.

An official with the Brookhaven Fire Department described the fire as a “controlled burn” and “nothing to worry about.”
