The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars suffered two straight tough losses in the MAIS South AA State Tournament at John R. Gray Gymnasium.

In Friday contest, the Lady Cougars were defeated by the Bowling Green Lady Buccaneers 56-25.

In the girls consolation game, Saturday afternoon, the Simpson Academy Lady Cougars roared past the BA Lady Cougars 57-35.

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars will enter the MAIS State AA Tournament as the No. 4 seed out of the South AA which will held this week at Canton Academy.

The BA Lady Cougars will play either Tuesday or Wednesday against the North AA No. 1 team. BA’s opponent and tournament time have not been posted yet, so check Tuesday edition of the DAILY LEADER for the schedule.

Bowling Green 56, BA 25 

The Bowling Grenn Lady Bucs came out and quickly overwhelm the Lady Cougars in the first half of action as the Lady Bucs claimed a 46-11 advantage before heading into the locker room.

In the second half, the BA Lady Cougars outscored Bowling Green 14-10 in the last two quarters, but could not overcome Bowling Green’s large lead.

Leah Case was the offensive leader for BA with nine points. Mary Claire White netted six points. Anne Michael Smith contributed four points and had two rebounds. Hillary Wilson paced the Lady Cougars on the boards with four rebounds and scored three points.

Reagan Moody led the Lady Bucs with a game-high 20 points.

Simpson Acad. 57, BA 35 

In the girls consolation contest Saturday afternoon, the Simpson Academy Lady Cougars overpowered BA in the first quarter to secure a 19-0 advantage and cruised to a 26-7 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Lincoln County-based Lady Cougars came out on fire in the third quarter and outscored Simpson 20-16, but still trail 42-27 heading into the final period.

In final frame, Simpson quickly end BA’s run with a 15-8 push in the fourth quarter to collect the win.

Hillary Wilson powered the Lady Cougars of Brookhaven Academy with a team-high 10 points. Anna Kathryn Smith contributed nine points. Mary Claire White and Anna Michael Smith chipped in with five points each.

Molly Shotts was the top scorer for Simpson with a game-high 26 points. Gracie Knight provided 14 points.
