Child dies from wreck injuries
The 4-year-old daughter of Nancy Goodwin of Wesson has died of her injuries after the vehicle she was riding in crashed into a tree on Highway 51 near Forest Trail NE in Lincoln County Thursday.
Sgt. Rusty Boyd of the Mississippi Highway Patrol said in a news release that the girl had been airlifted to Blair E. Batson Hospital where she died at 3 a.m. today.
At 6:44 p.m. Thursday, officers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Troop M, responded to the single-vehicle collision of a 2003 Jaguar. The vehicle was driven by Jonathan W. Thorpe II, 19, of 1571 Buttercup Trail, Bogue Chitto. He was south bound when the vehicle ran off the west side of the roadway, rolled over and collided with a tree.
Thorpe, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, was transported by ambulance to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
A front seat passenger, Michelle Goodwin, 16, of 1068 W. David Brett Rd. Wesson, was also transported by ambulance to SMRMC with moderate injuries. She was then transported to University Medical Center in Jackson. Goodwin was wearing a seatbelt during the collision.
The 4-year-old passenger in the vehicle was transported to King’s Daughter Medical Center with severe injuries, then airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center and Batson Hospital in Jackson where she later died. She was in a seatbelt but not a booster seat at the time of the collision, the press release said.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
