Each year, the nation sets aside a special day to honor those who have made sacrifices to secure the freedom of every American.

This year, a group of locals are working to host a program at the Lincoln Civic Center on Veteran’s Day, which will be Nov. 11. The Georgia Pacific catfish frying team will be there to provide complementary plates to all veterans. There will also be plates available for purchase for non-veterans. Plates will be served from 4:30 to 6:30, and the program will begin at 6 p.m.

Plans for the program include the BHS Choir performing and an appearance by state auditor Stacey Pickering. All veterans will be honored, and special recognition will take place for all World War II veterans.

“Before we lose anymore (WWII veterans), we just want to recognize them,” said Senator Sally Doty, one of the program’s organizers.

As part of the recognition, photos are being collected of WWII veterans. Any photos can be dropped off at The Daily Leader to be scanned and printed in the lifestyles section on Nov. 9. The photos will be displayed at the program and at the Military Memorial Museum. All photos can be picked up after they have been scanned.
