10th graders invited to try out for MSA

High school 10th graders with vocal and/or dance talent are invited to audition for the Mississippi School of the Arts May 22.

Applications are due no later than May 15. Students in the dance program at MSA apply ballet, modern and choreography to their daily routine. Vocal performance, theory and harmony, and musical theater are a few of the classes students explore in the vocal music program.

The process for admission includes application, audition and interview. Accepted students attend MSA their junior and senior years. Those who know of students currently in the 10th grade who might be interested in either dance or vocal music, are encouraged to let them know about this one-time opportunity. Applications are available on the MSA website, www.msa.k12.ms.us, or by calling 601-823-1300.

MSA is a public statewide 11th and 12th-grade residential high school located in Brookhaven on the Historic Whitworth College campus.

Annually, MSA enrolls approximately 145 students who meet and exceed the traditional Mississippi high school curriculum by receiving intensive instruction in dance, literary arts, theater, visual arts and vocal music.

The graduating class of 2013 received more than $4.6 million in college scholarship offers. Students interested in MSA apply their sophomore year.

Qualified students attend an onsite audition process.
