Police: Accident, not chase

An accident that happened near the Piggly Wiggly parking lot and the intersection of East Monticello Street and North Church Street did not involve a police pursuit, Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell said.

Speculation on Facebook led to the idea that a police chase had ensued, or that the incident involved a hit-and-run.

While the Brookhaven Police Department did respond to the scene of the accident at approximately 6 p.m. Friday, there was no police chase involved and the driver did follow police officer protocols, Bell said.

“There was no police chase. This was an accident where a driver that was traveling at a high rate of speed clipped another vehicle,” Bell said.
