South Pike Eagles blanked Franklin County

MAGNOLIA – The South Pike Eagles collected a 20-0 win Friday night over the Franklin High Bulldogs, as Jaxavian Holmes rushed for 130 yards on 11 and carried two touchdowns.

South Pike amassed 375 yards of total offense and 17 first downs, compared to FC’s 147 yards of total offense and a mere seven first downs.

Holmes, whose electric speed and moves gave the Bulldogs fits the entire night, put the Eagles ahead 7-0 with a one-yard touchdown plunge in the first quarter.

Marc Varnado added a five-yard touchdown scramble in the second quarter and gave the Eagles control of the contest.

In the fourth quarter, Holmes added the finishing touch with a 59-yard scamper to the endzone.

Franklin High, who had their chance to score, never managed to organize their offensive. The Bulldogs scored drought stands currently at 10 quarters.

Bernard Selmon, the FC standout senior running back, was held in check with 65 yards rushing on 21 carries.

On defense, Greg Queen led the Dawgs with 11 tackles. DeAnthony King and Mike White each had nine tackles and forced a fumble.
