She spent most of her childhood in New Orleans. She was a 1938 graduate of Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University and taught French and Spanish at All Saints’ College in Vicksburg from 1938 until 1941.

She married Benjamin Alfred Guider on Dec. 27, 1941. He left to serve in the Army in January 1942 and Mary worked in the decoding division of Naval Intelligence until 1945 when her husband returned. They then settled in Vicksburg and raised six children.

Mrs. Guider delighted in entertaining family and friends in her home and is fondly remembered by her children and grandchildren as a wonderful cook and a loving matriarch at countless family gatherings. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg for most of her adult life. Until her last years, Mrs. Guider belonged to a Vicksburg bridge club, which has been playing bi-weekly since 1946.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 53 years, Judge Ben Guider; brother, Calvin Shaw of New Orleans; and her son, John Guider of Utica.

Survivors are her sons, Dr. Ben Guider Jr. (Linda) of New Orleans and Tom Guider (Bernadette) of Wilmington, Delaware; three daughters, Elizabeth Collins (Walter) of Los Angeles, California, Mary D.
