Wesson eludes Wilkinson Co.

WOODVILLE- The Wesson Cobras traveled south to play the Wilkinson County Wildcats Tuesday night in Region 7-3A basketball action.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Cobras played a close game against the Lady Wildcats and pulled the win with a final score of 51-47.

In boys’ action, the Wesson Cobras boys were also victorious against the Wildcats with a final score of 76-71.

The Cobras will host the Jefferson County Tigers Friday night. The Wesson girls will play at 6:00 and the Wesson boys will play at 7:30 p.m. at the Wesson Gymnasium.

Wesson 51, Wilkinson County 47 

The Lady Cobras defeated the Lady Wildcats in a close game with a 51-47 final score Friday Tuesday night.

Senior Kayla Britt led the Lady Cobras with a total of 18 points which included two 3 pointers. Other top scorers for the Lady Cobras were Jashia Smith with 13 points and Tashay Glasper with 11 points. The Lady Cobras were 21/40 in free throw action.

Wilkinson County’s Katie Hull topped the Lady Wildcats with point total of 25. The Lady Wildcats were 3/15 in free throw action.

Lady Cobras’ coach Rusty Newman commented after the game, “We played well in spurts and we missed a lot of free throws down the stretch. We are fortunate to get this win. I’m proud of the girls for getting the job done tonight.”

Wesson 76, Wilkinson County 71 

The Wesson Cobras outscored the Wilkinson County Wildcats to pull the win with a final score of 76-71 Tuesday night.

Sophomore Tyler Robinson was the top scorer for the Cobras with a point total of 24. Other top scorers were senior Dartavious Dixon with 14 points and sophomore Anthony Jones with 13 points. The Cobras were 18/26 in free throws.

The Wildcats’ top player was JaQurious Stewart, who had a point total of 22. The Wildcats were 17/22 in free throw action.

“I thought we played well as a team tonight,” commented Cobras’ coach Rusty Newman. “We executed pretty well on both ends of the floor. This was a big win on the road for us tonight.”
