Funeral Services for Bernice Peavey Smith of Gonzales, Louisiana, formerly of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive, with burial in Riverwood Memorial Park. Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, from 9 until 11 a.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive.

Mrs. Smith, 90, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2015, at Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born on April 20, 1924, in Lincoln County to Dan Peavey and Josie Carr Peavey.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brookhaven and was retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company where she was a “pioneer” for them and worked for 40 plus years. She was one of nine siblings.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Alcus Smith; sisters, Mildred Williams, Lynn Webley, Mae Byronz and Helen Nance; brothers, Roy Peavey, Freeman Peavey, James Peavey and Cecil Peavey.

Survivors are her son, Ken Smith and wife, Becky, of Laguna Beach, California; daughter, Susan Smith and husband, Mike, of Gonzales; grandchildren, Stephen Smith and wife, Valeria, of Alsio Viejo, California, Allyson Smith Liu and husband, Jeff, of Laguna Beach, Sydney Smith Manuel and husband, Jason and Hayley Smith, both of Gonzales; great-grandchildren, Luciana Smith and Jason Smith, both of Aliso Viejo, and Jake Manuel of Gonzales.
