NATHANIEL WEATHERSBY / Brookhaven residents settle down in the Vernon Room of the Lincoln County Public Library Thursday to watch The Book Thief as part of a series of movies the Friends of the Library will be hosting entitled Theater Thursdays.

The Friends of the Library on Thursday hosted showings of the movie “The Book Thief” at the Lincoln County Public Library. The advocacy group for the library showed the movie at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Katherine Bumgarner, who organized the event, said that the 1:30 p.m. showing was well attended and hoped that the later showing would attract a younger audience who may have read the book on assignment.

“There’s so much history about Germany and World War II,” Bumgarner said about the movie. She said the movie, along with other movies in the group’s lineup for upcoming events, is PG-13 and was great to show with kids in the audience.

Bumgarner said the organization plans to show movies on the fourth Thursday of the every month, calling the event Theater Thursdays. Although the group compiled its own list of movies during their initial meeting in August 2014, she said the public is free to suggest other movies.

“If people have something they want to see, let us know. We can rent it or borrow or get it somehow,” Bumgarner said.

Bumgarner said the event is open to the public and dress is casual. She said the event is for the community and is excited about the next event on March 26.
