JACKSON – The Belhaven Blazers softball team picked up a pair of big victories Saturday afternoon at McLeod Field, defeating Faulkner University in a doubleheader 6-2 and 4-1.

In game one, the Blazers jumped out to a four run lead over the first two innings. The first run came via a Dani Craft single to right field that scored Josie Porter from second.

In the second inning, the Blazers added three more runs on a two-out rally. Makenzie Hawkins started the rally with a double to left and then scored on Porter’s double to right in the next at bat.

Craft picked up her second RBI of the game with a single to left, scoring Porter from second. Craft then became the third run of the inning after scoring on a throwing error in the next at bat that allowed Ashlee Hitt to reach.

Faulkner answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, but that is all that Jordan Herring would allow as she picked up her seventh win of the season.

Herring pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits and one walk, while striking out seven Eagles batters.

In the bottom of the third, Hawkins would add the final runs of the game with a two-run homerun that also scored Haley Yasses.

In game two, the Blazers again took the lead with a run in the bottom of the first as Porter scored on a double by Hitt to left field.

In the third inning, the Eagles answered back with a run on two hits. However, that would be the only run allowed by Julienne Broussard as she picked up her 10th win of the season.

Broussard scattered five hits and did not allow a walk while striking out five Faulkner battles.

Belhaven would not retake the lead until the fifth inning, but did so in a hurry. Stacey Luciani started off the inning with an infield single. Porter then doubled to center to put runners at second and third.

Dominique Corona then hit a ball to the left side that was picked up by the pitcher and Corona beat out the throw, while Luciani broke for home after the throw to score the go-ahead run.

After Hitt reached to load the bases, Emily Todd tacked on two more runs with a double to left center, scoring Porter and Corona.

Belhaven will return to action on Wednesday, hosting Bethel in a SSAC West doubleheader at McLeod Field. The Blazers split a doubleheader with Bethel in McKenzie, Tenn. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
