Union Church

For all the fathers this column touches, I wish you a very happy day. An intelligent lady who spoke at one of our teachers’ meetings once reflected we need to know a mother just cannot do a father’s job. She was so right. As we observe Father’s Day, may we remember the ones who are with us and the ones in heaven who have done such a great job raising us to be the people we have become. I know my father, who was an Association Missionary (we call them Directors of Missions now) was not at home much, but when he was he taught life values I adhere to today. Even when he insisted his family be on the road with him conducting vacation Bible schools, going to revivals and other events that required discipline at times, we knew we were part of our dad’s calling and made so many friends being “drug around” as I called it at times. Have a happy day making more memories today.

Happy June Birthdays to Kathy Posey, Janet Smith, Colby Calcote, Wilson Calcote, Eddie McKinney, Leanne Strong and Prentiss Cupit.

Happy Anniversary Ruby and Elmer Buie, Deanna and Hunter Ezell,  and Marinia and Joey Smith.

The past week brought joys and sorrows to our community. Louise Abell, Edward McKinney and Pat Kimble’s sister went to her heavenly home last week. This beautiful lady enjoyed a 100th birthday recently. Julia Wiggins’ funeral was last week. Remember both families in your prayers.

Eddie and Becky McKinney are enjoying their grandsons, Noah and Jax this week. Their parents, LeAnne and Ryan Alford, became parents of a beautiful baby girl they named Addie Greer Alford. She weighed seven pounds fifteen ounces and was 21 inches long. Congratulations.

Last Thursday, I enjoyed attending a retirement celebration for Doylene Cupit at the Franklin County Hospital. Friends and family enjoyed the time together, and Doylene will be missed there. However, we are so happy to have her close by and pray she will enjoy her time at home with her family and friends here.

Last Sunday, I enjoyed going to Wesson to Logan and Samantha Carr’s baby shower at the Baptist church there. Baby Eli received many wonderful gifts from so many people who will love him and Jude and be good role models for them.

The past two Sundays Union Church Baptists have enjoyed the preaching of Bro. Clarence Young. Ryan Alford will be here to preach for us for the next several Sunday mornings. On Wednesday and Sunday evenings we are having a Bible study by Alistair Begg. This study is “Stories of the Kingdom: Teachings from the Gospel of Mark.” We invited you to join us in this study as we grow to become Kingdom People.

As we observe Father’s Day today may we remember: “I can’t call myself loved or chosen or wanted if I first don’t have a Father to love, choose and pursue me.”

Have a happy day and week!
