Irene was raised in the West Lincoln community. She was the oldest of five children. She was a devoted member of Arlington Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary for many years. She was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union and served on the Lincoln Baptist Associational WMU council. She also was a member of the church flower committee and found great joy in sharing flowers from her own yard to make bouquets for the church. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, playing ROOK and sewing beautiful dresses for her four daughters. Her pride and joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved very much. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Elma Lee Smith Rushing; brother, Hilton Rushing; and brother-in-law, Cecil Seay.

Survivors are her husband of 69 years, Hulon Perry Brown; daughters, Tish Brown Russell and husband Buddy of Brookhaven; Becky Brown Calcote and husband, Doug, of Brookhaven, Perrian Brown of Brookhaven, and Penni Brown Tilton and husband, Jim, of Moscow, Russia; sister, Mary Ellen Seay; brothers, Ben W. Rushing and Millard Rushing and wife, Myra Lynn; grandchildren, Clark Calcote and wife, Kelly, David Calcote and wife, Claire, and Nathan, Joshua and Anna Claire Tilton; great-grandchildren, Ava Caroline, Will Thomas, Warner, Harper, Hayes and Ella Calcote; and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all her caregivers, especially Dell Jordan and Pat Newman for all the love and care they showed to her in her final years at home. The family would also like to thank Bro. Matthew Green, her pastor, for ministering to her and the family during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends may send donations to the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (www.imb.org) in memorial to Mrs. Irene Brown.
