She graduated from Utica High School in 1941 and later married the love of her life, Carl Milton Wahl. Mrs. Wahl remained married for 55 years until her husband’s death in 1998.

Mrs. Wahl moved to Brookhaven with her husband in 1953, and together they opened Wahl’s Shoe Shop in the same year. She worked side-by-side with her husband repairing shoes for many years until retiring in the early 1980s. After the shoe shop was closed, she taught 3-year-old kindergarten classes at First Baptist Church for 10 years. She frequently stated that teaching kindergarten brought her great joy because she loved working with small children.

In her later years, Mrs. Wahl was a member of the First Baptist Church, but throughout her life, she developed strong friendships with many people in local churches, including Central Baptist Church and Heuck’s Retreat Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing Christian hymns as a member of the Lincoln County Chorale and traveled to several venues to perform with the choir. Her Christian faith was evident to all who knew her, and she led by example, imparting Christian values and influence on her surrounding family.

Mrs. Wahl loved her family tremendously and she forged a deep bond with her child and grandchildren. Although she will be missed, she leaves behind a legacy of Christian values, family kinship and infinite love.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, John W. Deaton and Clarence D. Deaton; and husband, Mr. Carl Wahl

Survivors are her only child, Judy Wahl Hall; son-in-law, David C. Hall; grandchildren, David Wilson and Melissa Wilson Rutledge; and grandson-in-law, Michael Rutledge.
