Busy court term helps clear docket

A Lincoln County man was sentenced to serve more than 14 yearsof a total 30-year sentence after pleading guilty to 15 chargesagainst him, according to records for the August term of court.
Mitchell Mackabee, of 2813 Hopewell Road, faced a 13-countindictment on charges of burglary, burglary of a dwelling, grandlarceny and conspiracy. He faced two other indictments for unlawfultaking of a motor vehicle and grand larceny.
During last month’s court term, Judge Mike Smith orderedMackabee to serve 14.5 years of a total 30 years in sentences inthe cases, with the last 15.5 years to be served under post releasesupervision. The defendant was also ordered to pay fines totaling$7,000 and restitution to victims totaling $8,294.
Assistant District Attorney Jerry Rushing said the DA’s officemade no sentencing recommendation in the case, and he was pleasedwith the sentence.
The crimes happened over an approximately two-year period. Itemstaken included guns, saddles, ski boat covers and other items.
“Property stolen here went to different locations,” Rushingsaid, mentioning that some items were recovered as far away asHinds County and Wiggins.
Authorities said charges are pending against Mackabee in otherareas of the state.
Rushing said he was glad to get cases resolved and cleared fromthe court docket. Since the June grand jury session, he said almostall the cases have been handled.
“We’ve moved the docket quite a bit,” Rushing said.
Other sentences handed down after defendants pleaded guilty tocharges included:
* Robert Cupstid, 55, of 26 Montgomery Road, Natchez -embezzlement under contract – Serve two years of five-yearsentence, $18,501 restitution, $2,000 fine and $250 to CrimeVictims Compensation Fund.
* Mary Allen, 39, of 2806 Old Wesson Road – unlawful transfer ofcocaine. Serve six years of eight-year sentence, $5,000 fine and$140 restitution.
* Willard Breeland, 47, of 1065 Union St. – unlawful sale ofcocaine. Serve six years of 18-year sentence, get drug treatment,$5,000 fine and $160 restitution.
* Willie Woods, also known as Woody, 47, of 216 Penn St. -unlawful sale of cocaine. Serve seven years of 18-year sentence,get drug treatment, $5,000 fine and $220 restitution.
* Shasta Breeland, 28, of Oakview Apts. – four indictments:unlawful sale of cocaine, unlawful possession of cocaine withintent to distribute and two for unlawful distribution of cocaine.Serve six years of total 26-year sentence, get alcohol and drugtreatment and $5,000 fine.
* Thomas D. Dixon, 27, of 217 Ingram St. – simple assault on alaw enforcement officer. Serve two years of a five-year sentence,get alcohol and drug treatment and $1,000 fine.
* James D. Hemphill, 40, of 17170 Highway 51 Hazlehurst – thirdoffense DUI. Three years suspended for five years probation uponsuccessful completion of house arrest program, attend NarcoticsAnonymous meetings for a year and $4,000 fine.
* Samuel Case, 58, of 501 Brookman Dr. – stalking. One yearsuspended for two years good behavior probation, attend angermanagement counseling, no contact with victim or family and $500fine.
* Andrea Brown, 32, of 401 Industrial Park Road – utteringforgery and conspiracy. Total 12-year sentence suspended for fiveyears of post release supervision, $1,000 fine, $275 restitutionand $250 to Crime Victims Compensation Fund.

* Victor Stewart, 34, of 201 East Mildred St. – uttering forgeryand conspiracy. Seven years suspended for five years non-reportingprobation, get alcohol and drug treatment, $1,000 fine and $40restitution.
*Dianna Bridges, 19, of 401 Industrial Park Road – third degreearson. Acceptance of guilty plea withheld pending $1,000 fine, $250to Crime Victims Compensation Fund and three years onnon-adjudicated status.
* Karey Whittington 53, of 1202 Brumfield Road – two indictmentsfor uttering forged prescriptions. Serve one year of three-yearsentence, get alcohol and drug treatment, $500 fine and $250 toCrime Victims Compensation Fund.

Defendants who were ordered to serve parts of their sentenceswere ordered to serve the remainder of varying periods of postrelease supervision.
