BOGUE CHITTO – Following several weeks of tragedy andmisfortunes, the Bogue Chitto Bobcats played the kind of game theyneeded to and beat the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 35-22 in a keyDivision 7-1A matchup at Troy Smith Field Friday night.

“We played a lot better,” said Bogue Chitto head coach CarlCole. “We really worked to focus on the district playoffs. We had agood week of practice. We had something to prove.”

Bogue Chitto improved to 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the division.Enterprise stands 0-1 in division play and is 3-2 on theseason.

Enterprise took the opening kickoff and drove 69 yards to scoreon a two-yard run by fullback Brent Boyd at the 7:27 mark in thefirst quarter. The two-point conversion run was stopped and theJackets took an early 6-0 lead.

In the second quarter, the Bobcats got their first break of thegame when the Jackets fumbled and Bogue Chitto recovered at theEnterprise 15-yard line. At the 8:19 mark, Wide receiver ScottEdwards caught a nine-yard pass from Bobcat quarterback JacobLeggett for the six points. Dominique Addison kicked the extrapoint and Bogue Chitto took a brief 7-6 lead over Enterprise.

On their next possession, Enterprise marched 53 yards to scoreon a two-yard break around the corner by tailback Shermaine Vaughn.Vaughn ran for the two points and pushed the Jackets lead to 14-7with 3:30 left in the second quarter.

Bogue Chitto marched 75 yards and scored on a three-yard burstby Leggett. Leggett connected to tailback Johnathon Cuter for thetwo points and gave the Bobcats a slight 15-14 edge over theJackets with 37 seconds left until halftime.

Before the first half ended, Bogue Chitto defensive back DenardFerguson intercepted Jacket quarterback Justin Kyzar’s pass with5.7 seconds left.

Bogue Chitto took the second half kickoff and drove 67-yards toscore on a 14-yard scramble by Cutrer. Addison’s PAT kick was goodand the Bobcats extended their lead to 22-14 with 7:40remaining.

The Bobcats scored one more time in the third quarter. BogueChitto drove 66 yards, highlighted by a 58-yard burst by Addison.The extra point kick failed and the Bobcats improved their lead to29-14 with 1:47 showing in the quarter.

Enterprise battled back in the fourth quarter to close thedeficit to seven points, 29-22, with 4:57 remaining in the game.The Jackets marched 82 yards, highlighted by Kyzar’s passes toRenald Skipper. Kyzar connected to Pierre Harthorne on a 30-yardpass play for the TD. Kyzar hit Skipper on the two-pointconversion.

On the ensuing kickoff, Ferguson broke loose down the rightsideline for an 85-yard TD return then Addison kicked the PAT asBogue Chitto went up 35-22 with 4:05 remaining in the game.

“We had too many turnovers,” said Enterprise head coach RickyDeere. “We fumbled too many times. Shermaine Vaughn playedgood.”

Vaughn led the Jacket running game with 25 rushes for 191 yards.Boyd carried seven times for 43 yards.

“Enterprise was ready,” added Cole. “Their guys played a greatgame.”

Powering the Bobcat running game with seven carries for 100yards was Addison. Cutrer rushed 16 times for 88 yards. Finishingwith 33 yards on eight carries was Ferguson.

Cutrer completed 4 of 9 passes for 78 yards for the Bobcats.Cody Wallace caught three passes for 69 yards.

The Jackets collected 128 yards in the air led by Kyzar whocompleted 6 of 16 passes and had three passes intercepted. Catchingtwo passes for 54 yards was Skipper. Harthorne caught two passesfor 49 yards. Making one catch for 25 yards was Phillip May.

“Ferguson came up with the big play,” stated Cole.

On defense, Ace Wallace led the Bobcats with eighttackles and four assists. John Wallace collected seven tackles andmade five assists. Intercepting two passes was Ferguson, Addisonintercepted one pass.

Bogue Chitto visits Wesson and Enterprise hosts EdinburgFriday night.
