West Lincoln turns back North Pike’s Lady Jags

SUMMIT -West Lincoln’s Lady Bears won an offensive show Tuesdaynight, edging the North Pike Lady Jaguars 15-13 in slowpitchsoftball action.

SUMMIT -West Lincoln’s Lady Bears won an offensive show Tuesdaynight, edging the North Pike Lady Jaguars 15-13 in slowpitchsoftball action. The teams combined for 31 hits.

West Lincoln (14-11, 6-2) play a best-of-three series Saturdayat Puckett in the opening round of the Class A state playoffs,starting at 1 p.m.

North Pike (21-9), the Division 6-3A champion, is coached byBogue Chitto native Sonya Wallace. The Lady Jags host MageeThursday night for a best-of-three series in the first round of theClass 3A state playoffs.

“It’s always good to end your season on a win,” said WestLincoln coach Andrew Redd. “That gives you some momentum going intothe playoffs.”

The Lady Bears’ 16-hit attack was led by second baseman LaurenSmith who collected 3 doubles. Right-centerfielder Lyndsay Franklindoubled and tripled.

Third baseman Jennifer Richardson had 3 hits for West Lincoln.First baseman Holli Bass and left-centerfielder Chastity Avantssingled twice. Lacey Cain, Rebecca Wallace, Brittnee Smith andHanna Roberts also hit safely as West Lincoln took a 7-0,first-inning lead and increased the margin to 13-1 before NorthPike rallied.

North Pike was powered by Sonia Freeman who homered twice andsingled. Erin Boyd singled twice and doubled. Brandi Hamiltondoubled and singled. Heather Williamson tripled and singled. CandiCockerham doubled.

Winning pitcher Christy Lindigrin struck out 1 batter and walked2. Hamilton was charged with the loss.

In the JV game, West Lincoln posted an 8-7 win. Twohomers by Brittney Phillips led the Lady Bears. Alicia Kennedytripled and doubled. Hannah Payne and Haley Smith singledtwice.

Also hitting safely were Ana Stewart, Lacey Cain,Britnee Smith, Jessie Jergins and Hope Lofton.

North Pike got a homer and a double from CaseyDickerson. Mandy Smith doubled and singled. Danielle Rawls singledtwice.
