Bogue Chitto sacks Salem

BOGUE CHITTO – Homecoming activities didn’t keep the host BogueChitto bobcats from their goal Friday night in beating the SalemWildcats 34-14 in an important Division 7-1A contest on Troy SmithField.

On the downside, Bogue Chitto was assessed 10 penalties for 135yards. Salem was hit with five penalties for 28 yards.

“Penalties plagued us all night,” said Bogue Chitto head coachCarl Cole. “We kept getting these aggressive penalties. We’ve gotto do better in weeks to come.”

Bogue Chitto improved its record to 4-4 overal and 3-0 in thedivision. Salem fell to 1-6 and 1-1.

At the start of the first quarter, Bogue Chtto’s Cody Wallacerecovered a Salem fumble to set up a quick three-yard run bytailback Johnathon Cutrer for the touchdown with 11:12 on theclock. The try for two points failed and Bogue Chitto led Salem6-0.

At the 7:20 mark in the first quarter, the Bobcats scored theirsecond TD on an eight-yard burst by Denard Ferguson. DominiqueAddison kicked his first of two PAT kicks to extend the lead to13-0.

In the second quarter, Cutrer got loose for a three-yardtouchdown and Addison followed with a 24-yard burst for the otherTD. Leggett hit Cody Wallace on a two-point conversion pass toextend the Bobcats’ lead to 28-0 at the half.

Leggett connected to Paul Martin at the 9:30 mark in the thirdquarter to push Bogue Chitto’s lead to 34-0. Addison’s kickfailed.

Salem scored twice in the fourth quarter to trim the deficit to34-14.

Powering the Bogue Chitto running game with nine carries for 64yards was Ferguson. Addison carried four time for 54 yards.

In the air, Leggett completed 4 of 8 passes for 155 yards forthe Bobcats. Scott Arnold caught three passes for 79 yards. Makingthree catches for 56 yards was Cody Wallace.

Defensively, Ace Wallace sparked Bogue Chitto with eighttackles. Making six stops was John Wallace. Addison finished withfive tackles.

Bogue Chitto visits division foe Dexter Friday night.Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
