Centreville marches past BA

The defending Class AAA state champ Centreville Academy Tigershanded the host Brookhaven Academy Cougars a 42-27 beating Fridaynight.
Centreville punched in the first touchdown of the game on afour- yard run by B.J. Robinson and Roy Fonte hit the PAT kick togive the Tigers a 7-0 lead over the Cougars at the end of the firstquarter. Fonte kicked all six PATs.
In the second quarter, the Tigers scored two touchdowns to goahead 21-0 over the Cougars. Nathan Mathis connected to JohnVincent for the touchdown pass-play and Vincent followed up with an18-yard run for the second TD.
Brookhaven recorded its first touchdown of the night whenquarterback Jake Sessums connected to Ben Davis from 18-yards out.Brandon Achord kicked the extra point to cut the deficit to21-7.
The Tigers tacked on another TD before halftime on a 14-yardburst by Jonathon Newman for a 28-7 lead.
In third-quarter play, Centreville went ahead 34-7 on a threeyard carry by Vincent. Brookhaven roared back with seven pointsfollowing a 31-yard pass-play from Sessums to Smith, trimming thedeficit to 34-13 after the failed pass play.
In the final frame, Drew Habert scored a three-yard TD for thefinal score for the Tigers that put their lead up to 42-13.
Brookhaven tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarterto cut the Centreville lead to 42-27. Dustin King scored on athree-yard run followed by an Achord kick. Sessums connected toSmith for a 15-yard TD and a third PAT kick by Achord.
Sessums led the Cougar running game with 15 rushes for 56 yards.King carried 12 times for 67 yards. Davis rushed four times for 44yards. Ryan Nix finished with 26 yards on five carries.
The Brookhaven air show was powered by Sessums who completed 2of 6 passes for 63 yards. Davis caught eight passes for 84 yards.Smith caught three passes for 57 yards.
Defensively, Chad Lagrone led the Cougars with 12tackles. Davis and Jeffery Waycaster had 10 stops apiece. AustinWilliams recovered a fumble.
Brookhaven (5-4, 1-1) entertains District 4-AA foeWilkinson County Christian Friday night forhomecoming.
