Lawrence Co. girls host N’east Lauderdale today

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars swept the OakGrove Lady Warriors two game straight in the best-of-three seriesin the first round of the Class 4A slowpitch state softballplayoffs.

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars swept the OakGrove Lady Warriors two game straight in the best-of-three seriesin the first round of the Class 4A slowpitch state softballplayoffs. The Lady cougarfs won 5-4 and 7-6.

Lawrence County (19-5) hosts Northeast Lauderdale today. Thefirst game begins at 4 p.m.

Stacy Smith was the winning pitcher in both games. The losingpitcher was Maghan James.

Lawrence County 5, Oak Grove 4

In the opener, shorstop Casey Ward led Lawrence with atriple. Doulbing were Jerrica Boutwell, Amanda Givens and HeatherSanders. Robbie Dampier and Danielle Ross singled.

James led Oak Grove with two singles as the LadyWarriors scored twice in the seventh inning. Doubling ws ShanaKnight. Singling were Chrissy King, Felycia Andrews, Lauren Broomeand Jenny Panqueme.

Lawrence County 7, Oak Grove 6

In the second game, Dampier doubled twice and singledfor the Lady Cougars who scored twice in the bottom of the seventhto beat Oak Grove. Tripling was Smith. BreighAnna Dawsey and AmandaGivens singled twice. Doubling was Ward. Ross and Boutwell hitsafely.

Andrews led Oak Grove with a home run and asingle.
