W. Lincoln Bears, Lady Bears win

Senior guard Jamie Sisco pumped in 21 points to power the hostWest Lincoln Bears in a 57-54 season-opening win over the PineyWoods Tornadoes Tuesday night.

In the varsity girls contest, sophomore point guard Dana Kingfired in 20 points to spark the Lady Bears in a 56-43 victory overthe Lady Tornadoes in Jack Case Gymnasium.

In the varsity boys game, West Lincoln (1-0) led PineyWoods 30-21 at the half. The Tornadoes outscored the Bears 18-5 inthe third quarter. West Lincoln came back in the final frame tooutscore Piney Woods 22-15 and nail down the win.

“I was proud of them,” said West Lincoln boys coachJason Case of his Bears. “We’re learning. They will do well as theseason goes on.”

Luke Lofton added support to the Bear win with 14points, nine rebounds and three steals. Sam Collins netted 11points and pulled down seven rebounds. Sisco had threeassists.

Top scorer of the game was Piney Woods’ Ernest Haskellwith 26 points.

West Lincoln 56, Piney Woods 43

The Lady Bears (1-0) trailed the Lady Tornadoes 25-23 atthe half. In the second half, West Lincoln went on a 16-6 run inthe third quarter and 17-12 run in the fourth to take thewin.

“I was proud of the way we played,” said Case who alsocoaches the West Lincoln girls. “They played hard.”

Hanna Roberts and Chastity Avants fired in 10 pointsapiece for the Lady Bears. King collected seven rebounds, sixsteals and six assists. Pulling down seven rebounds was HannahPayne.

Top scorer for Piney Woods was Sythrea Weathersby with21 points.

In the junior varsity boys game, Piney Woods tapped WestLincoln 30-26. Daniel Allen and Brooks Smith led West Lincoln withsix points apiece.
