Enterprise boys rally past Bobcats; Lady ‘Cats prevail

BOGUE CHITTO-The Enterprise Yellow Jackets and the BogueChitto Bobcats split a pair of Division 7-1A nail-biters Fridaynight in Calhoun Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets overcame a 20-point, first-halfdeficit to overtake Bogue Chitto 71-66. In ther varsity girls game,Bogue Chitto beat Enterprise 42-34, avenging an earlier loss andhanding Enterprise its first setback of the youngseason.

Bogue Chitto will host St. Joe fora makeup doubleheaderMonday night.

In the boys game, the Bobcats raced out to a 37-18second quarter lead, thanks in part to a 10-0 run. Enterprisewhittled the lead to 39-28 at halftime.

“We didn’t capitalize when we had the opportunity,” saidBobcat head coach Theo Black. “We lost our composure toward the endof the second quarter with the technicals and erratic defense. Thatspell toward the end of the second quarter really hurt us. Once welearn to play the mental game we’ll be okay.”

Enterprise used that momentum to forge a 25-7 run tobegin the third quarter and take a 53-46 lead. The Bobcats cameback and cut the lead to 68-66 with 50 seconds remaining in thegame. That was as close as they could get.

“We decided not to quit this time,” said Enterprise headcoach Billy Vaughn, whose Jackets improved to 4-2 overall, 3-1 inDivision 7-1A. “When we were behind by 20, we could’ve folded butwe didn’t.”

Rufus Allen led the Yellow Jacket attack with 26 pointsand 10 rebounds. He also hit three 3-pointers. Kary Brown added 21points and grabbed 9 rebounds for Enterprise.

Carlos Brown led five Bobcats in double figures with 15points.

The Lady Bobcats avenged last week’s 29-19 loss toEnterprise with a hard-earned 42-34 victory.

“We were poorly prepared last week and that could’ve been myfault,” said Bogue Chitto head coach Mickey Myers. “We were verytentative in our shots. We worked hard this week in practice,especially on offense, and I thought we played good teambasketball.”

The Lady Bobcats, leading 35-34, turned up the defense a notchand blanked Enterprise for the final 4:19 of the game.

“Give Bogue Chitto credit,” said Enterprise head man BillyVaughn. “They came to play and wanted it more than we did. “We justwent cold at the end.”

Jessica McGary led the Lady Bobcats with 11 points, and YolandaDrummond added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Lacey Palomarez was the only Lady Jacket in double figures with14 points.

Bogue Chitto improved to 6-2 overall, and 3-0 in division play.Enterprise fell to 6-1 and 3-1.

In the boys JV game, Enterprise defeated BogueChitto 37-32.

Terry Vining had 11 points and Chris Porter 8 to leadEnterprise. Brian Wallace scored 10 and Luke Moak for BogueChitto.
