Lady ‘Cats rally past West Lincoln

Bogue Chitto had to dig down deep Monday night and find itschampionship tradition. Trailing by 11 points starting the fourthquarter, the Lady ‘Cats came to life; fueled by a full-court pressand rallied past West Lincoln’s Lady Bears 41-33 in Jack CaseGymnasium.
The Division 7-1A showdown saw Bogue Chitto (9-2) escape WestLincoln and remain unbeaten (6-0) in division play, directed byguard Jessica Melton’s 17 points. West Lincoln (5-8, 3-1) wentscoreless in six minutes of the fourth quarter.
Bogue Chitto coach Mickey Myers said his team works hard onintensity in practice. “We want that Lady Bobcat attitude. We mustplay with heart and play hard.”
Myers saw his girls trailing West Lincoln 14-11 at halftime. “Weshot horrendous in the first half,” making just 4 of 25 field goalattempts and 3 of 10 free throws.
“We were fortunate to get some breaks,” Myers continued. “Wewere able to turn up the intensity and get (Lady Bears) in foultrouble. We were able to execute better and take high percentageshots in the fourth quarter. We pounded the ball inside.”
Yolanda Drummond and Jessica McGarry worked inside for 8 pointsapiece. McGarry also had 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Drummond grabbed9 rebounds and Kristen Hatten 6.
The Lady ‘Cats fell behind 11 points, 30-19, when West Lincoln’sHannah Payne scored on an assist from Dana King after breaking thefull-court press early in the fourth quarter. The Lady Bears wouldgo scoreless for the next 7 minutes before King hit a pair of freethrows with 1:00 left to play.
Bogue Chitto tied the game at 30-30 on a trey by guard RandiMoak and 3:11 left to play. Melton sacked a turnaround jumper with2:44 left and BC had its first lead at 32-30. The Lady ‘Cats wenton a 21-zip scoring spree and led 38-30 on Melton’s free throw with1:08 showing.
King, finishing with a team-high 11 points, picked up her fourthpersonal with 1:20 left in the third frame. Payne, a 5-11sophomore, collected a career-high 20 rebounds. Hanna Roberts added5 rebounds for West Lincoln.
“Bogue Chitto’s constant pressure got to us at the end,” saidWest Lincoln coach Jason Case. “We are young. We have to learn tokeep our composure. Foul trouble hurt us.”
West Lincoln guard Chastity Avants fouled out with 6:24 left inthe game. Bogue Chitto forward Marquita Ratcliff sprained her rightankle with 3:17 left in the first quarter and sat out the remainderof the game.
Junior High Results
In the junior high girls game, West Lincoln beat BogueChitto 42-27 to remain unbeaten in nine games. Alicia Kennedy ledthe win with 14 points, followed by Lauren Smith and Britnee Smithwith 10 apiece.
Bogue Chitto got 7 points from Danielle Sasser. BryannaWallace had 6 points and Haley Roberts 5.
