North Pike sweeps WL Bears

SUMMIT – The North Pike Jaguars made it a clean sweep Fridaynight as they downed West Lincoln in non-district action.

The Jaguars broke a five-game losing streak with a 50-45 winover West Lincoln while the Lady Jags bounced the Lady Bears47-43.

“We were fortunate in that we hit free throws down the stretchwhen we needed it,” said North Pike head coach Cassels Wilson.”Curleyon (Thornton) was clutch in the final quarter with 4-of-4from the line.”

Stingy defense on the part of both teams in the opening halfproduced a 19-14 Jaguar lead.

“I thought we played well despite the fact that several of ourplayers had the flu,” said Wilson. “We also have Nic (Wilson) outwith an injury, but we look for him to be back for our firstdivision game.” The younger Wilson is slowed by a stretchesAchilles tendon.

Matthew Lofton led North Pike (8-7) with 14 points and JoshMatthews and Jackie Robinson each bucketed 13 points.

Cody Mitchell hit four 3-pointers and 15 points to pace WestLincoln (11-4) which is coached by Jason Case.

“Give West Lincoln credit,” added Wilson. “They are a welldisciplined team and they all can shoot. They’ll win some gamesbefore this season is over.”

The Lady Jaguars (14-2) held West Lincoln toonly four third quarter points en route to a 47-43 victory.

Sabrina Ard had a game-high 18 points to lead North Pike. DanaKing led the Lady Bears (6-9) with 17 points.

“We were lucky to win this one,” said Lady Jaguar head coachJohn Stevens. “We didn’t play well overall, plus we had threeplayers out with illness.

“Year in and year out, West Lincoln plays the best defense ofany team we face. They never give up. We like to run, but they(West Lincoln) are a very patient team. They take you out of yourstyle of play.”

In boys JV action, North Pike downed WestLincoln 37-31. Larry Downs led the Jaguars with 12 points. DrexterAdair pumped in 11 for the Bears.

North Pike opens division action on Jan. 2 with a trip to takeon Jefferson County. West Lincoln returns to action Jan. 2, hostingSt. Aloysius.
