Armed robber hits new motel

MONTICELLO — Authorities continued to search Friday morning fora suspect in a Thursday night armed robbery.

According to authorities, at about 8:15 p.m. Thursday a blackman held up the Liberty Inn, a new motel located at theintersection of Highway 84 and Highway 27.

“He entered the motel office with a firearm and jumped acrossthe counter,” said David Stanley, an investigator with theMonticello Police Department.

The gunman allegedly held the clerk at gunpoint while he emptiedthe cash drawer, which contained an undisclosed amount of money.Although the clerk was frightened, she was not injured, saidStanley.

“Then he jumped back across the counter and exited the motel onfoot,” said Stanley.

Authorities were unable to locate a suspect Thursday night, butwere following up on some leads Friday morning.

They are requesting assistance from anyone who might have seenanything suspicious around the time of the robbery. A more detaileddescription of the suspect should also be available later.
